Baptist Memorial Health Care is a network of hospitals throughout the Mid-South that includes 24 affiliate hospitals across 3 states and facilities that encompass an array of home care and hospice agencies, hospitals, minor medical clinics, behavioral health programs and a network of surgery, rehabilitation and other outpatient centers. Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis is a qua ternary hospital that supports a full array of specialties and procedures including heart transplant and stem cell transplant and is the flagship hospital of the Baptist Memorial Health Care system and is one of Tennessee's highest volume hospitals.
The vision of the Palliative Medicine Service is to reach all patients who are diagnosed with a serious or life-limiting condition at the beginning of their journey and at any other stage of their disease process in the Baptist community and to grow as the Palliative Care Leadership Center for the Baptist network providing comprehensive hospice and palliative care for patients and families.
We seek to grow as the palliative medicine training hub for the Baptist system and community. This is done by:
- Maintaining the large Specialty Palliative Medicine inpatient consult service
- Continuing to expand the home-based palliative care program and increase visits among vulnerable palliative patients at home in the community
- Expanding to outpatient co-located palliative medicine clinics
- Growing the hospice program which includes a large home hospice population as well as including patients in the hospital that meet GIP criteria as well as staffing one two Hospice Houses in the community.
PRACTICE OPPORTUNITY:
- Join an expanding Palliative Care Team with broad integration in a growing health care system that provides opportunities for full scope hospice and palliative care for patients and families.
- Join our Palliative Care team currently consisting of:
- 4 Board Certified Palliative Medicine Physicians
- 6 Certified Nurse Practitioners
- 2 Registered Nurses
- 1 Licensed Clinical Social Worker
- 1 Chaplain
- Participate on a large inpatient consult service, currently at two hospitals (600+ & 300+ beds respectively)
- Our current hospital penetration (percent of new admits seen by the palliative service) is nearly double the national average
- Participate in inpatient and outpatient hospice services by serving as medical directors and associate directors of a growing hospice through a joint venture
- Weekend Call for hospice is currently 1:4 weeks (and could change with the addition of a physician)
- Participate in maintaining an active Home-Based Palliative Care Program
- Participate in educating Palliative Medicine Fellows (3 fellows per year), Medical Residents of multiple specialties (including family medicine, internal medicine, emergency medicine, and addiction medicine) as well a 4thyear medical students and nurse practitioners
- Participate in expanding to outpatient co-located palliative clinics (with plans to be imbedded in specialty clinics including heart transplant and advanced heart failure, stem cell transplant, ALS and advanced pulmonary hypertension)
REQUIREMENTS:
- Board Eligible/Board Certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
Base Salary: $236,000
- Yearly Bonus (after first year) available per quality criteria : $30,000
- Additional stipend available for nurse practitioner oversight up to : $24,000
- Additional income for hospice services : $30,000-$50,000
