What you will do
The Methodist Transplant Institute, in partnership with The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), is accepting applications for a transplant hepatologist. As a leader in the field of organ transplantation for more than 40 years, this transplant program provides liver, kidney, and pancreas transplantation, living donor organ transplantation, and hepatobiliary surgery to patients with end stage organ disease in the Midsouth.
The current transplant program boasts an active practice in general and transplant hepatology, as well as deceased donor adult and pediatric transplantation. The position is focused on general and transplant hepatology, consisting of a balance of outpatient clinics and inpatient liver service on a rotating basis with other hepatologists. Recent transplant hepatology fellows are welcome to apply. The ideal candidate for the position should have fellowship and/or post fellowship experience in the care of patients with advanced liver disease and liver transplantation.
The candidate should have a foundational understanding of quality metrics and regulatory requirements as they relate to deceased donor liver transplant programs. There are potential growth and leadership opportunities for candidates that meet OPTN/UNOS primary physician requirements. Participation in the training of medical students, general surgery residents and transplant surgery fellows is expected. Opportunities to participate in clinical and translational research exist through our endowed Transplant Research Institute.
Supervision of advance practice providers is required. Salary and benefits package will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
Education/Formal Training Requirements
- MD/DO
- Current board certification in gastroenterology or current board certification in transplant hepatology
Work Experience Requirements
- Recent transplant hepatology fellows are welcome to apply
- Board certified with fellowship and/or post fellowship experience in the care of patients with advanced liver disease and liver transplantation
- Candidates must be providing care for general and transplant hepatology patients during fellowship or in their current position
- Ability to communicate and function well within a robust multidisciplinary team
Licenses and Certifications Requirements
- Licensed Physician Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners
- Board Certification in Gastroenterology or Board Certification in Transplant Hepatology
Physical Demands
- Must be physically and mentally able, with or without reasonable accommodation to perform the essential functions of the position without endangering the health and safety of self and others.
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
- Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
