Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) invites applications for a General Dentist, Assistant/Associate/Professor in Residence in the Department of Clinical Sciences, School of Dental Medicine (Requisition R0134904).

Role of the Position

The UNLV School of Dental Medicine is looking to fill six (6) Clinical Faculty – General Dentistry positions. Successful candidates will provide comprehensive clinical supervision, oversight, and instruction in the delivery of safe, ethical, and evidence‑based patient care by students enrolled in the DMD/DDS pre‑doctoral dental program.

Responsibilities
  • Providing chairside supervision to pre‑doctoral dental students in UNLV SDM clinics.
  • Teaching pre‑clinical, simulation, and clinical general dentistry courses.
  • Developing, updating, and delivering didactic content, including lectures, seminars, and small‑group instruction.
  • Ensuring integration of contemporary science, clinical innovation, and digital dentistry technologies into educational activities.
  • Contributing to student assessment, competency evaluations, remediation, and academic support.
  • Maintaining compliance with CODA standards, OSHA, HIPAA, quality assurance, and institutional policies.

The position requires a strong community orientation, including participation in community outreach, service‑learning programs, and other SDM community initiatives. Engagement in scholarship or research is encouraged and supported. Additional expectations include service on school and university committees, participation in accreditation and quality‑improvement processes, and engagement in faculty development activities.

Optional:
Maintain and advance clinical skills by treating patients within the UNLV Faculty Dental Practice, in accordance with faculty practice policies.

Works Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm at the Shadow Lane Campus.

Profile of the School

UNLV School of Dental Medicine, the only accredited dental school in Nevada, opened its doors during fall 2002 offering a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree to an initial cohort of 75 students. Today, the school receives more than 1,800 applications for 82 seats within its pre‑doctoral program; it also offers eight academic degree and advanced education certificate programs; conducts biomedical research within 4,000 square feet of laboratory space;

hosts continuing education classes to industry professionals; leads multiple community outreach programs; and has more than 70,000 patient visits per year. The School of Dental Medicine’s education programs are accredited by CODA and have maintained that status since 2002.

Minimum Qualifications
  • DDS or DMD degree from a CODA‑accredited dental school (or equivalent foreign dental degree with appropriate U.S.‑based credentialing).
  • Current licensure or eligibility for licensure in the State of Nevada.
  • Minimum three (3) years of clinical practice experience in general dentistry OR completion of a GPR/AEGD residency.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching, supervising, or mentoring dental students, dental residents, or dental teams.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States. Credentials must be obtained prior to the start date.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience as a faculty member in a dental school or academic clinical setting.
  • Experience with digital dentistry, CAD/CAM, advanced restorative materials, or emerging clinical technologies.
  • Experience working with diverse patient populations and/or community‑based dental programs.
  • Experience or interest in scholarly activity, educational innovation, or clinical research.
  • Bilingual proficiency.
