Tax Managing Director, Alternative Investments

BDO USA is seeking a seasoned tax leader to drive compliance and consulting services for a portfolio of Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients. The role combines client relationship management, engagement leadership, and technical tax execution.

• Ensure client compliance with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens, and maintain compliance with BDO Tax Quality Manual (“TQM”).
• Prepare required tax filings using a system of review and documentation to guarantee full compliance and low client burden.
• Collect all data needed to satisfy filing requirements, identify missing items, and communicate promptly to prepare returns.
• Leverage firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in the tax preparation process.
• Collaborate with senior leaders, managers, tax seniors, and associates to complete projects, including follow‑up on open items.
• Deliver high‑quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services.
• Lead complex engagements with a team of tax professionals, managing billing, collections, and project budgets.
• Build and manage client relationships; assist in developing new clients and opportunities.
• Document client work and conclusions in the client tax file.
• Identify, develop, recommend, and implement efficient and effective tax strategies.
• Manage teams of senior managers, managers, tax seniors, and associates.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (required).
• Master’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation (preferred).
• Ten (10) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience (required).
• Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds—including Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds (preferred).
• Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships (preferred).
• CPA or Licensed Attorney, or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (required).
• CFP or Master’s in Tax (preferred).
• Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat (preferred).
• Experience with tax research databases (preferred).
• Proficient in tax compliance process software (preferred).
• Superior verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to effectively delegate work as needed.
• Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, and decision‑making skills.
• Capacity to work well in a team environment.
• Capability to develop and manage a team of tax professionals.
• Ability to compose written tax advice.
• Capability to effectively develop and maintain client relationships.
• Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions to clients.
