Altus is seeking a skilled General Maintenance Worker (GMW) to support facilities, equipment, and grounds maintenance at Melrose Air Force Range. This role performs a wide range of general, preventive, and corrective maintenance across multiple trades to ensure safe, functional, and mission-ready facilities.
If you are hands-on, mechanically inclined, and comfortable working across buildings, equipment, and outdoor environments, we’d love to have you on our team. In this role, you will support day-to-day maintenance operations, grounds upkeep, and repair activities across main and remote range locations.
Primary Responsibilities- Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.
- Record type and cost of maintenance or repair work.
- Clean or lubricate shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery.
- Repair or replace defective equipment parts, using hand tools and power tools, and reassemble equipment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, or the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
- Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, or perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.
- Use tools ranging from common hand and power tools, such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches, to precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
- Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
- Dismantle devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, and power tools.
- Plan and lay out repair work, using diagrams, drawings, blueprints, maintenance manuals, or schematic diagrams.
- Order parts, supplies, and equipment from catalogs and suppliers, or obtain them from storerooms.
- Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges.
- Paint or repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, or other parts of building structures.
- Align and balance new equipment after installation.
- Maintain inventory on tools and equipment.
- Perform other duties, within or outside the assigned area, appropriate for the skills of the employee and the efficient and effective operation of EMI Services.
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2–4 years of related maintenance experience and/or formal vocational or technical training
- Working knowledge of multiple building and utility trades
- Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in an active operational environment
- Valid Driver’s License
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
