Environmental Services Aide I – Tufts Medicine
Apply to join our team as an Environmental Services Aide I, responsible for maintaining clean, orderly, and attractive environments across patient areas, offices, and clinics under close supervision.
Job OverviewMaintain a clean, orderly, and attractive environment. Perform repetitive housekeeping tasks in patient areas, offices, clinics, and other assigned areas to meet quality standards and expectations.
Job DescriptionPreferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of related experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Maintain a cleaning cart in orderly condition, keeping it fully stocked with required cleaning supplies.
- Remove all waste including regular rubbish, cardboard, recyclable paper, and hazardous material.
- Use appropriate chemicals and tools, dust and damp‑disinfect floors, including corners and baseboards; place "Wet Floor" signs when mopping.
- Empty ashtrays, wastebaskets, and other receptacles; wipe clean with appropriate chemicals; replace liners and transport trash to compactor as required.
- Clean and disinfect public, private, and patient room bathrooms; replenish supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, and soap.
- Replenish all supplies: soap, toilet paper, paper towels.
- Disinfect patient rooms and clean/make beds that are vacant due to discharge, transfer, or expiration.
- Transport linen hampers to designated pick‑up areas; replace full linen bags when empty.
- Perform project work such as wall washing, cubicle changing, waste container cleaning, and window washing.
- Dust, polish, and disinfect all furniture, telephones, and horizontal surfaces; vacuum carpets and upholstery.
- Set up and clean furniture and audio‑visual equipment for functions, before and after events.
- Operate heavy‑duty/electrical cleaning equipment: wet vacuum, extractors, floor machines, buffers, upholstery shampooer, dry vacuum, and auto scrubbers.
- Collect needle boxes and dispose of them per departmental procedures.
- Report any equipment problems to supervisor.
- Complete daily inspections of assigned areas as directed by supervisor.
- Follow proper infection‑control practices.
- Assume responsibility for all work assigned to the crew for a particular shift.
- May perform cleaning and sanitization of operating rooms, including disposal of hazardous biological waste.
- Standing, walking, bending, and stretching for majority of shift.
- Push heavy loaded carts and lift between 30–60 lbs.
- Occasional climbing of ladders.
- Frequent exposure to dirt, dust, blood, body waste, and contaminated waste; possible cuts and needle punctures.
- Exposure to hazards such as TB, hepatitis, rodent bites in patient areas.
- Manual dexterity for fine manipulation of prescription medications and computer keyboards.
- Read simple instructions; write and speak basic English.
- Operate simple mechanical devices such as floor rotos, vacuums, and compactors.
- Familiarity with heavy‑duty, electrical cleaning equipment.
- Interact with hospital staff, visitors, and patients in a friendly, cooperative manner.
$17.00 – $20.02 per hour
