Pay Range

Job OverviewWe are seeking a qualified Safety & Environmental Manager to work out of our Melrose Park, IL USA corporate office. This role is responsible for the management of the Safety & Environmental activities for Interlake Mecalux in the US, ensuring that all US locations meet all requirements pertaining to regulations, policies, and procedures related to safety, health, and environmental, with special focus on OSHA and EPA.
PrincipalResponsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of safety regulations within the Melrose Park facility and on a corporate level for all US locations.
- Manage the correspondence and/or meetings/audits/hearings with all state, local, and federal agencies, including OSHA and EPA, with regards to matters related to safety and environmental compliance.
- Manage, audit, and improve the new hire safety orientation and training programs, annual required safety trainings, and training certifications for all sites, ensuring robust programs that comply with OSHA requirements.
- Provide leadership to management to incorporate continuous improvement principles and techniques.
- Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce associates’ exposure to work hazards.
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
- Manage accident investigations and safety audits, teaming with Human Resources and Plant Management to recommend corrective action.
- Report and review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing to management.
- Review plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment to determine whether all safety requirements have been met.
- Evaluate adequacy of actions taken to correct health inspection violations.
- 3+ years experience in health, safety, and/or environmental position within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Expert knowledge on OSHA regulations.
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to generate buy-in based on knowledge and quantifiable results. Action-oriented with a high sense of urgency.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is preferred.
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred.
- Ability to travel to other US sites in IL, SC, Dallas, and San Diego or to customers’ sites as it pertains to installation projects. Travel is as needed.
- Ability to be on feet most of day and in hot and cold plant conditions.
