Job purpose

The HVAC Control Installer is responsible for installing, wiring, programming, testing, and commissioning building automation and HVAC control systems. This role ensures all control components operate efficiently, meet design specifications, and comply with safety and industry standards. The installer works closely with project managers, technicians, and clients to deliver high-quality control solutions for commercial and industrial facilities.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Install HVAC control systems, including sensors, controllers, actuators, thermostats, and network devices.
  • Read and interpret control drawings, wiring diagrams, and project specifications.
  • Mount control panels, conduit, and low-voltage wiring according to code requirements.
  • Perform point-to-point checkout, system testing, and commissioning support.
  • Troubleshoot and repair control system issues during installation and startup.
  • Coordinate with electricians, mechanical contractors, and supervisors on job sites.
  • Ensure all work complies with local, state, and national electrical and safety codes.
  • Document installation progress, and changes.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe work environment.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 1–3 years of experience installing HVAC controls or related low-voltage systems
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems, control components, and BAS concepts
  • Ability to read technical drawings and wiring schematics
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment
  • Basic computer Microsoft office skills for documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job site
  • Experience with building automation systems (BAS)
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, Lonworks, etc.)
  • OSHA safety training.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods
  • Manual dexterity to work with small wiring and components.
  • Ability to effectively execute in a high demand environment
  • Must have excellent communication, phone etiquette, customer service and people skills, as well as be able to multitask and stay organized
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently, and have a sharp attention to detail
Working conditions

Working conditions may vary based on project and requirements. Typical working hours are from 6:55 am until 3:35 PM Monday through Friday but may extend into nights, weekends and holidays. Temporary project offices will be provided on a case-by-case basis.

Physical requirements

Normal office environment mobility; sitting, walking, bending, stooping, standing, lifting a maximum of 50 pounds (greater than 50 pounds requires a two-person lift), turning, pushing. Normal office dexterity, to include; reaching, handling, grasping, to include typing/keyboard, and phone use.
