Loader Operator OverviewThe Loader Operator moves, loads, and handles materials within the asphalt plant area using heavy equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, excavators, and front‑end loaders. Responsibilities include lifting, hauling, pushing, rolling, and moving aggregate and related materials.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities, and Key Accountabilities- Operate heavy equipment to excavate, move, load, and grade earth, rock, gravel, or other materials in a safe manner.
- Conduct pre‑operational checks on equipment and perform cleaning, lubrication, and refilling.
- Assist the Plant Manager in coordinating material handling and equipment usage.
- Apply knowledge of heavy equipment capabilities and maintenance and construction tasks.
- Follow traffic and safety rules and apply safe operation techniques.
- Maintain records and provide oral or written reports.
- Perform simple arithmetic computations.
- Be capable of sitting for prolonged periods and physically demanding tasks such as climbing, bending, stooping, and squatting.
- Maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public.
- Work long hours outdoors, occasionally under adverse weather conditions.
- Communicate effectively using speaking, hearing, writing, and vision skills.
- Demonstrated ability to operate heavy and complex equipment requiring skill and independent judgment.
- Ensure equipment operates safely and keep related records.
- Perform manual labor incidental to the assigned task.
- Willingness to perform related work as required.
Three years of experience in public works maintenance and/or construction work, with at least one year involving operation of various heavy equipment. Comparable directly related experience may substitute for educational requirements.
