Provides nursing care and applies nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of patients within all programs including but not limited to, Improved Pregnancy Outcome, Family Planning, Communicable disease, Immunizations, Refugee Health, Sexually Transmitted Infections/Diseases, and Chronic disease. Thus, utilizes the nursing process to assess and identify patient needs.
Performs independent professional public health nursing duties in a generalized public health nursing program to foster and preserve good community health.
Interviews, counsels, and teaches clients, patients, and/or parents according to assessed needs and program requirements. Interviews, counsels, demonstrates, and teaches health principles. Applies nursing principles and techniques in the care and treatment of client.
Performs professional public health nursing duties including but not limited to education, interviewing, assessment, counseling, treatment, delegation, and prioritization of patient care under the direction of the Assistant Community Health Nursing Director according to assessed needs and program requirements.
Performs indicated nursing duties and related activities according to established policies and procedures including but not limited to administering prescribed medication, assisting clinicians, and performs follow-up and compliance.
Completes case management duties in all clinics to include follow-up care, referrals, patient education and treatment, and communication with clinicians.
Communicates with respect and understanding in dealing with clients, the public, and other staff members.
Utilizes electronic health records and programs accurately and correctly on regular basis.
Works independently in all clinic settings and utilizes community resources in the process of referring clients to the appropriate agencies.
Participates in continuing education, in-services, staff meetings, and new employee orientation and transports oneself thereto.
Completes and submits required time management documentations (EARS, timesheets, etc.) in FDOH mandated time frames and that of direct reports.
Participates in preparation of clinic rooms and equipment.
Assists in the completion of clinical audits to ensure proper delivery and documentation of services per guidelines.
Performs related duties as required by Assistant Community Health Nursing Director.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of nursing principles, nursing care, the nursing process, and scope of practice.
- Knowledge in assessing patient health problems and needs.
- Knowledge in developing and implementing nursing care plans and maintaining medical records.
- Knowledge of computer software including applications and EHR.
- Knowledge of Public Health Practices.
- Knowledge of medical equipment and instrumentation, room preparation and sterile instruments and related procedures including assisting clinicians with procedures.
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication.
- Ability to administer and deliver nursing care and advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention.
- Ability to perform case management and provide ongoing assessment, evaluation, and follow-up for clinical services.
- Ability to perform physical activities that require moving one’s whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, where the activities often also requires considerable use of the arms and legs.
- Ability to lift, carry, push or pull 20 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, balance, and kneel.
- Ability to stand intermittently for 4-6 hours throughout workday.
- Ability to sit intermittently for 1-3 hours throughout workday.
- Ability to repetitively perform fine manipulation skills applicable to nursing care such as writing, use of small medical tools, grasping medical instruments, and typing.
- Ability to read, understand, and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to utilize problem solving techniques.
- Minimum –
- Willing to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
- Willing to travel to various locations in Brevard County
- Current state Registered Nursing license
- Preferred –
- At least one or more years RN experience.
- At least one or more years of Public Health Nursing experience.
- Experience working in Women’s health and Family Planning.
- Experience working in Obstetrics/Maternity Care.
- Experience working with immunizations.
- Associate degree or higher in Nursing
