: $27.65 to $30.42 hourly
Treatment Plant Operator B/Mechanic - Water
: $26.40 to $29.04 hourly
Treatment Plant Operator C/Mechanic - Water
: $25.18 to $27.70 hourly

Positions are available in the North, Central, and South areas of the County. Work schedule involves shift work and includes evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
ResponsibilitiesPerform experienced crafts and trades work participating in the daily operation, maintenance, and housekeeping typical of water treatment facilities. Tasks include operating pumps, motors, and other water treatment plant equipment; operating automotive and light equipment; calibrating chlorine, pH, and turbidity meters; performing routine laboratory tests, including chlorine residual tests; using judgment to set parameters for the water treatment process; and performing mechanical repairs on tanks, pumps, plant generators, mixers, aerators, center contacts, air compressors, chlorination equipment, lime and other chemical feed equipment, grit removal systems, mechanical screens, sludge dewatering equipment, and other equipment used in booster plants and utility lift stations.
Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent, as required by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP).
- TPO Class A/Mechanic - Water:
- Five years (10,400 hours) of documented hands‑on experience working on‑site in a water treatment facility.
- Two years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment.
- TPO Class B/Mechanic - Water:
- Three years (6,240 hours) of documented hands‑on experience working on‑site in a water treatment facility.
- Two years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment.
- TPO Class C/Mechanic - Water:
- One year (2,080 hours) of documented hands‑on experience working on‑site in a water treatment facility.
- Two years of experience in mechanical repair and maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment.
- Additional college or technical coursework in subjects related to science or treatment plant operations is preferred.
- Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license and maintain it during the term of employment.
- Must possess a valid active FDEP Class A, B, or C Drinking Water Operator's license and maintain it in an active status during the term of employment.
- Must successfully complete an OSHA‑compliant forklift operator training course that meets the requirements of 29 CFR and be able to safely operate a forklift.
- Must be physically capable at all times of properly wearing and utilizing all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection.
- Must be able to work planned and unplanned overtime and standby and call‑out duties on a rotational basis, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- In the event of a hurricane, major storm, natural or man‑made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
