Harris is seeking a motivated individual to join the team as a Network Architect / Lead Network Planning Engineer, supporting innovative network solutions across multiple programs and initiatives. The selected candidate will work independently on projects from start to finish, including developing network designs based upon user requirements, creating network diagrams using Visio, configuring network equipment, and providing full implementation follow‑through and documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Meet with customers and gather requirements
  • Design networks to meet customer needs
  • Perform technical trades including technologies and equipment/vendor selection
  • Write technical responses in proposals, lab testing, and support the proposal process
  • Ensure customer technical requirements are met by architecture
  • Contribute to budgeting and understand the financial impact of technology decisions
  • Assess competitors and the types of technology they use
  • Develop and implement test plans
  • Develop project timelines
  • Implement and tune networks
  • Make adjustments when new solutions encounter unexpected issues to keep the network operating properly
  • Write functional requirements/specifications documents
  • Maintain knowledge of new technologies and determine appropriate use (e.g., SD‑WAN, network automation, NFV)
  • Guide selection, implementation and deployment processes for new technology rollouts
  • Evaluate technologies and designs against critical infrastructure and service needs for external customers
  • Implement solutions that support customer visions and objectives
  • Participate in inter‑program initiatives and discussions to resolve technical challenges
  • Create and maintain documentation and training for engineering and NOC teams
  • Maintain operational excellence of network systems and components to exceed customer expectations
  • Define and implement best practices for network and capacity management
  • Identify opportunities for automation and network optimization
  • Perform proof of concepts and service trials while documenting system integration
  • Perform network planning, modeling, and analysis
  • Ensure network architecture design and management support customer security requirements
  • Travel as required for requirement meetings and system integration planning
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or equivalent accredited 4‑year technical degree
  • 10+ years of network engineering experience with IP networks
  • Experience with proven leadership as a team leader, manager or technical expert; recent experience leading a project in a large‑scale environment
  • Experience analyzing requirements to develop technological roadmaps and performing network modeling, analysis, planning and budgeting
  • Experience designing efficient, cost‑effective network infrastructures that meet long‑term client goals while also permitting short‑term objectives and financial obligations
  • Experience designing LANs, WANs, Internet connections, intranets and other data communications systems for large, distributed communications systems
Preferred Additional Skills
  • Experience presenting strategies and solutions to senior managers and executives
  • Experience interacting with and managing technology vendors such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, F5
  • Experience implementing network design, testing and building enterprise networks
  • Experience partnering with Tier 1 Internet Service Providers, troubleshooting routing within the Internet
  • Ability to configure, implement and support IP network infrastructure
  • Experience configuring MPLS, ISIS, QoS, BGP, VPLS, AS prep ending, route policies, in-depth BGP troubleshooting (including route‑leaking, BGP attributes)
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting OSPF redistribution, costs, and route‑maps using Cisco XE code
