Job SummaryThe Architectural Team Lead is responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of the Architectural Drafting team to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality production of construction documents. This role serves as the primary team lead for the department, motivating employees, assigning and prioritizing work, and ensuring plan accuracy and efficiency. The position works closely with the Senior Architectural Manager to maintain master plans, support new plan development, and ensure that lot-specific plans are released to permitting accurately and on schedule.
The Team Lead also provides technical expertise in architectural drafting, structural interpretation, and construction documentation.
- Supervise and oversee the daily functions of Architectural Drafters, including workload distribution, accountability, and performance support.
- Coordinate day-to-day plan production to ensure accurate and timely release of lot-specific drawings to permitting within required time frames.
- Partner with the Senior Architectural Manager on master plan maintenance, updates, and the development of new master plans.
- Perform redline reviews on all projects prior to release to the building department to ensure quality, accuracy, and compliance.
- Track plan issues, field conflicts, and design discrepancies and collaborate with the Senior Architectural Manager to implement updates into master plans.
- Interpret and review structural and truss engineering packages and coordinate revisions as necessary.
- Provide technical troubleshooting support to resolve plan and field issues quickly and effectively.
- Perform additional drafting and documentation duties as required to support department workflow.
Education
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Preferred fields of study:
Architecture, Construction, Business Management, or CADD.
Experience
5+ years of experience in architectural design and structural analysis using CADD.
5+ years of experience in a leadership or management role.
10+ years of experience in residential construction and/or structural design.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Expert-level proficiency in CADD and architectural drafting software.
Strong understanding of structural loads, capacities, and residential structural systems.
Ability to interpret truss engineering packages and structural calculations.
Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve design and field issues efficiently.
Ability to manage multiple projects with varying scopes simultaneously.
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Supervises approximately six (6) team members, including Senior Drafters, Drafters, and a Project Manager.
- Receives general supervision and works independently on standard assignments with escalation as needed.
