We are currently looking for a Crew Chief in our Medicine Hat location. Medicine Hat is a vibrant city located in southeast Alberta with a population of 63,271 (Statistics Canada, 2021). With 330 days of sunshine, there are plenty of indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities. to learn more about what this sunny city has to offer!
Summary Of Responsibilities- Working under the supervision of a Project Manager and/or Land Surveyor.
- Leading a crew in surveying tasks across all sectors/divisions within Midwest.
- Performing predominantly municipal/cadastral surveying, including:
- Leading a crew performing oilfield and pipeline construction and all other types of field surveying.
- Completion of survey calculations.
- Communication with clients, field representatives and site supervisors.
- Serving in a client-facing role, having regular interaction with Midwest clients, landowners and/or members of the public.
- Collaborating with Project Managers, Land Surveyors, and other Crew Chiefs to ensure quality client service.
- Traveling as required by work assignments (field-based position).
- Lodging costs covered by Midwest.
- Reimbursement provided for subsistence expenses.
- Adapting to varying work assignment lengths based on client requirements, job complexity and/or job location.
- Working overtime as needed.
- A valid driver’s license, free of major convictions as defined in jurisdictional traffic safety regulations (i.e., distracted driving, driving while impaired).
- A diploma or degree in Geomatics from a recognized post-secondary institution, or equivalent experience. Equivalent experience is 5+ years in the survey industry in a related position.
- The ability to comply with Drug & Alcohol testing requirements as stipulated by client requirements and jurisdictional health and safety regulations.
- Experience and proficiency with basic Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience and proficiency with the operation of all types of survey equipment (RTK GNSS, Total Stations, Levels, Laser Scanners).
- Familiarity with all elements of the practice of surveying in the jurisdiction of application.
- As an asset, demonstrated proficiency with line locating.
- As an asset, but not required, a Nav Canada RPAS Basic or Advanced UAV/Drone license.
- Commitment to promoting and contributing to a safe work culture.
- Strong sense of client service and workmanship.
- Strong communication & comprehension skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong understanding of survey ethics and responsibilities.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Leadership and mentoring mindset; willing to aid in the teaching and development of the Survey Assistant.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a high volume, deadline-driven environment.
- Willingness to learn new technical skills (i.e., UAV/Drone license, survey methodology).
- Experience with light duty trucks (F-350 or similar) and OHVs (Off-Highway Vehicles).
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Hands on mentorship and guidance (i.e., one-on-one job training with experienced field and office staff).
