Bring your customer service skills to the Medford DMV as a transportation services representative. In this role, you will assist the public with obtaining a driver license, registering vehicles, issuing permits and license plates, administering knowledge, skill, and vision tests to potential drivers, ensuring correct fees are collected, providing information about regulations and policies, and administering behind‑the‑wheel drive tests. Training will be provided to support decisions based on vehicle laws, agency policies, and regulations.
Aday in the life
- Help the public register vehicles and apply for permits.
- Provide exceptional customer service while following privacy laws.
- Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to accurately answer complex questions.
- Produce photo licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards.
- Administer, correct, and explain driver license tests.
- Conduct and interpret results of driver vision tests.
- Perform physical examinations of vehicles and verify vehicle identification numbers.
- Prepare daily bank deposits and account for sensitive inventory.
- Occasionally perform relief work in other DMV offices within the region.
- Stand for extended periods, work in inclement weather, maintain an irregular schedule, and lift up to 40 pounds.
- Type at least 30 words per minute with high accuracy; a typing assessment will be conducted at interview for selected candidates.

- Two years of public contact/customer service experience involving in‑person or telephone interaction and explanation of services, rules, regulations, or procedures.
- Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
- Three months of experience collecting money and making change.
- Completion of an associate’s degree substitutes for one year of the public contact experience.
- Driving is an essential function of this position.
- Must have a valid U.S. driver license and an acceptable driving record.
- License does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.
- Experience working in a fast‑paced environment and handling stressful situations.
- Demonstrated computer literacy and reading comprehension skills.
- Experience providing excellent customer service.
- Experience handling multiple assignments and frequent interruptions.
- Experience effectively interpreting and communicating complex rules and policies to customers or clients.
- Complete the application or attach a resume with dates (MM/YYYY) for each employer.
- Complete the required questionnaire.
- Respond to the public records request authorization and gender identity questionnaire after submission.
- Current State of Oregon employees will receive the tasks in their Workday inbox.
