Jackson County Community Justice is seeking dynamic individuals to join our team. Our department encompasses Adult Services (Parole and Probation), Juvenile Probation, Detention and Residential Services, and the Jackson County Transition Center. Through these services, we work to address criminal behavior and promote positive behavior change, ensuring a safer community for all.

We are currently hiring a Community Justice Officer.

Salary Range: $25.56 - $34.18 Hourly

I. Position Summary

Oversees Community Justice program clients and/or a small to medium sized Community Justice program including evaluating, cognitive behavioral interventions and monitoring justice involved individuals assigned to that program. Performs work using independent judgment in application of specialized technical knowledge and skills and has a limited amount of contact with justice involved individuals outside an institutional setting and required knowledge is limited to a specific area in the field or program.

II. Examples of Essential Position Duties (The following duties represent some of the principal job duties; however, they are not all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.)

  • Determines eligibility of individual clients for special programming and/or oversees programs including monitoring and referrals when required.
  • Schedules, supervises and/or conducts programs in assigned area for clients to meet their specific program needs.
  • Evaluates and responds to client program related requests with appropriate information.
  • Monitors client compliance with the specific program conditions which may involve utilizing a variety of contacts, such as individual contact with law enforcement contacts, family member contacts, etc. Prepares and submits related reports and recommendations as required or necessary.
  • May provide individual cognitive behavioral interventions and referrals to clients as needed to help ensure maximum results from the program.
  • Confers with supervisor, treatment agencies, law enforcement agencies, businesses, court personnel, etc., regarding client progress or problems.
  • Trains and oversees program volunteers and assigned staff members.
  • Enforces security procedures to maintain the safety of volunteers and resource personnel.
  • Adheres to regulatory requirements, collective bargaining agreements, County and departmental policies and procedures, required trainings, as well as safe work practices.
  • Develops and maintains effective internal and external working relationships at all levels.
  • Has regular and reliable attendance. Overtime may be required.

III. Minimum Requirements (Performance of the essential duties of this position includes the following requirements, physical demands and/or working conditions)

Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree or at least two years college course work in criminology, criminal justice, sociology, communication studies, human services or psychology AND;
  • Three years of experience working with the criminal justice or social services systems providing direct service to clients OR four years of other responsible employment that includes working directly with or directing the work of others, multitasking, or military service; OR
  • Any combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.

License, Certificate or Other

Requires possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. Must possess first aid and CPR certification within initial 30 days of employment. May require certification in LEDS operation, certification by the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training within 18 months of appointment, and/or Alcohol and Other Drug Screening Specialist (ADSS) certification, depending on duties. Must be at least 21 years old.
