Position SummaryThe Nurse Practitioner/Certified Nurse Midwife acts as a role model for Asante's Mission and Guiding Values and incorporates Asante's Nursing Philosophy into their clinical practice. The NP/CNM functions within the Oregon State Board of Nursing scope of practice for Advanced Practice Nursing, according to AWHONN standards and Guidelines, and within the standards established by the American College of Nurse Midwives.
The CNM may function in one or more roles:
- Patient Care CNM:
The NP/CNM provides for routine prenatal exams and delivery, other health care to pregnant women, and those seeking pregnancy. - Perinatal Clinic:
The NP/CNM at the Perinatal Clinic is additionally responsible for providing diagnostic testing, using a variety of specialized ultrasonographic procedures. In addition, the Perinatal Clinic NP/CNM will provide clinical backup for the Maternal/Fetal Medicine specialist for uncomplicated deliveries and perinatal transport of high-risk women to RVMC.
- Clinical Practice CNM:
The CNM is an expert in clinical practice and functions in the role domains of clinical practice, consultation, education, research / clinical outcomes and population management. The CNM has influence in three (3) spheres of practice:
Patient/Client, Nurse/Nursing Practice, and Organization/System.
Experience
- For Patient Care & Perinatal Clinic roles: At least 2 years in an obstetrical office practice as either a Women's Health Practitioner or Certified Nurse Midwife is required
- For Clinical Practice role: 3 years recent clinical expertise in specialty area is required
- Must have experience with new obstetrical office patient exam routines, return prenatal patient examination routines, charting and documenting.
- Ability to perform uncomplicated vaginal deliveries. Ability to assist at cesarean section deliveries as a first assistant.
Education
- MSN with graduation from a Certified Nurse Midwifery or Nurse Practitioner Program is required
