Position: Custodian (part-time)

Summary

Are you dependable, detail-oriented, and take pride in keeping spaces clean and safe? The City of Medford is looking for a custodian to join our team!

What You’ll Do
  • Ensure City buildings remain safe, clean, and welcoming for employees and the public
  • Carry out routine cleaning, sanitizing, and light maintenance tasks

What We’re Looking For
  • At least six months of custodial experience
  • A reliable, hardworking individual
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and work independently
Required Education And Experience
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Six (6) months or more experience as a custodian with an industrial, janitorial firm, or commercial business and thorough knowledge of custodial materials and methods.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience with various types of floor maintenance equipment including floor scrubbers, extractors, buffers, and carpet cleaners.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, equipment, and supplies used in custodial maintenance.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements of the position.
  • Ability to adjust to priority work changes.
  • Ability to conform with all safety rules and perform work in a safe manner.
  • Ability to operate modern office equipment including computer equipment, and specialized software applications programs effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive and harmonious working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance upon hire.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver’s license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record throughout employment.
  • Successfully complete a background investigation to the satisfaction of the City.
Available Schedule
  • Monday - Thursday, 6:00 PM - 11:00 PM plus Sunday, 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM

Occasionally, you may be required to work on a holiday if it falls on your regular workday.

Compensation & Benefits

The anticipated hiring range for the Custodian position is $20.70 (first step) to $21.74 (second or third step). The City of Medford determines starting pay based on an evaluation of relevant education, experience, and qualifications as provided by the applicant in their application materials.

  • Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) retirement contributions paid by employer for part-time, year-round positions.
  • Paid sick leave – one (1) hour accrued for every 30 hours worked.
  • Access to the City's fully equipped fitness center 24/7.
Essential Functions
  • Cleans, sanitizes, and disinfects restrooms, break rooms and all public spaces.
  • Stock custodial closets with appropriate supplies.
  • Sweeps, vacuums, and mops (wet and dry) a variety of flooring materials.
  • Dusts furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Washes windows, mirrors and walls, tables, and chairs.
  • Empties and disposes of collected waste, recycled goods and other materials.
  • Adheres to safety practices and standards when performing all duties.
  • May be required to travel between different work locations based on operational need.
  • The scope of the assigned area will depend on departmental structure and is determined at the discretion of the department director or designee.
Other Functions
  • Performs a variety of minor routine building maintenance tasks; identifies and reports building maintenance needs in assigned buildings and facilities.
  • Keep all equipment and tools in good operational condition.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall function of the department and organizational goals.
