Additional Position Details
: FTE: 0.7 | Part Time | 28 hours per week | Primarily Mon - Fri / 8AM - 5PM
Starting Wage: $39.91-$54.89 per hour, depending on experience
Position SummaryThe RN Diabetes Care and Education Specialist provides outpatient diabetes counseling in group or individual appointments in cooperation with the physician and dietitian. Evaluates, initiates, and manages insulin pump, CGMS systems, and all diabetes tools. Using a high level of critical thinking to evaluate, interpret data, and suggest changes within the same visit. They coordinate the diabetes education survival skills needed for the discharge of hospital inpatients with a primary or secondary diagnosis of diabetes who are referred by a physician or staff nurse.
Mentors and assists non-certified educator RN's. Acts as a resource for diabetes education and information for the medical community. Plans and participates in community education classes, diabetes related health fairs, and staff in-service programs.
Experience
- 2 years of clinical RN experience is required
- Diabetes education experience is preferred
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred
- Experience in the Sweet Success Program for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is preferred
Licensure/Certification s
- RN:
Registered Nurse licensed by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) is required upon start - BLS:
Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider certified through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon start - Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) by the National Certification Board for Diabetes Care and Education (formerly CDE) is required within 1 year of start
- CPT:
Certified Pump Trainer is preferred - Member of AADE
- American Association of Diabetes Educators is preferred
