Summary
:
Provides support to the Assistant Director of Special Education with the leadership of special education department programs consistent with federal and state laws, rules and regulations, and district policies and procedures. Assists the Assistant Director in school administration and department-specific programs and services that allow students requiring additional support or special education services to access the general education curriculum in the least restrictive environment while meeting their individual educational needs.
Provide job-embedded and ongoing professional learning, including individual coaching, coaching of collaborative teams, and large group training.
- Assist with the management of all special education services.
- Supervise and evaluate the work and professional growth of assigned special education staff and assist with supervising and evaluating all special education staff.
- Facilitate regular meetings with special education staff, as required.
- Assist in coordinating the activities of all special education personnel, both licensed and classified staff.
- Maintain and submit required records and reports.
- Implement special education program objectives, required activities, and program needs to District administration and others, as directed.
- Work closely with principals on administering and improving special education services.
- Assist with scheduling individualized student testing and evaluation for the District.
- Maintain a liaison with local, state, and national agencies.
- Ensure compliance practices and procedures for special education services are consistent with state and federal mandates.
- Keep current and interpret all laws, regulations, and statutes relating to public education, particularly special education.
- Assist the Assistant Director in developing the budget and financial data for the District Special Education budget components.
- Serves as a District Representative for IEP meetings as assigned.
- Coordinates with outside agencies to provide services to students and staff to offer appropriate services.
- Implement the District's vision of exceptional customer service to support student achievement and increased participation in activities and athletic programs and assist in resolving patron complaints as they arise.
- Models the characteristics of effective leadership, including positive energy, unfailing integrity, strong communication, etc.
- Represent the District within forums to maintain ongoing community support for the District's shared vision and educational goals and/or assist with issues related to the school environment.
- Attends meetings and participates on committees as requested.
- Supervise and evaluate the work and professional growth of assigned staff.
- All Medford School District employees supervise students and maintain a safe environment.

Education and Experience: A Master's Degree in Education or a related field is required. Previous experience as a building-level administrator and teaching experience with increasing levels of responsibility in developing Special Education curricula are preferred.
