Overview

Direct Support Professional (DSP) part-time position based in Medford, MA. The program is Outside the Lines
, an arts-based day program operated by RHD Boston, a non-profit organization serving adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities or autism. The role offers an exciting hourly rate of $18.50
.

We are seeking part-time DSPs to join our arts-based community day program. We provide caring, effective and innovative services that empower people of all abilities to build better lives for themselves, their families and their communities. RHD’s programs serve individuals with diverse needs, including intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, substance use disorders and homelessness. Permanent part-time shifts are available Monday and Friday from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.

The Direct Support Professional works with artists with a range of disabilities, including individuals whose challenging behaviors or health issues make them a poor fit for more traditional day services.

ADMINISTRATIVE:

• Attends and participates in meetings and training related to the services provided in the program (including team meetings, ISP meetings, administrative meetings).
• Ensures program documentation (data sheets, shift notes, etc.) is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
• Communicates medical information and follow-up as needed.
• Uses a cell phone (company or personal with stipend) to respond to calls from staff, supervisors, doctors, families, DDS, etc.
• Ensures staff receive regular trainings in fire safety and human rights.
• Reads and answers email in a timely manner.

INDIVIDUAL SERVICES:

• Provide direct support to individuals in the program (including personal care and behavioral support).
• Teach and assist in classes and activities designed to address participant needs and objectives.
• Follow clinical programs as outlined in individuals’ service plans and collect data as required.
• Develop and maintain therapeutic relationships with individuals in the day program.
• Help participants maintain connections with the community by facilitating field trips and developing community programming.
• Maintain open communication with co-workers, case managers, and the management team.
• Treat everyone with dignity and respect as an advocate for human rights.

TRAINING:

• Participates in regularly scheduled team meetings.
• Attends all assigned trainings (in person and online in the Cornerstone system).

PROGRAM SITE:

• Ensures that programs are clean and safe; report safety issues to appropriate supervisors (Floor Manager/Unit Director/Residential Director).
• Ensures necessary program supplies are present (art supplies, food, cleaning materials, and materials needed for ISP goals).

DOCUMENTATION:

• Accurately records all data related to ISP goals.
• Records all necessary medical/medication information.

• Have experience with art or arts programs (preferred).
• Have a valid driver’s license.
• Have basic computer and internet literacy with the ability to use email, time recording and other data entry applications as needed.
• Possess a high school diploma or GED; associates or bachelor's degree preferred.
• Prior experience in the Human Services field is preferred but not required.
• Current First Aid Certification.
• CPR certification within one month of hire.
• Subject to employment screening and background check.
