Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring a Part-Time Engineering Intern in Richmond, Virginia. The Engineering Intern is responsible for assisting Power Systems Sales personnel with vendor transactions, switch gear and panel retrofit projects, parts orders, shipping coordination and processing paperwork to facilitate sales. Seeking candidates with a High School diploma or GED, required;
Currently enrolled as a full-time student in a 4‑year engineering degree program.
- Self‑starter able to work with limited supervision.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude required.
- Must be able to read wiring diagrams and follow during the assembly process.
- Proficient with AutoCAD – reading, modifying and preparing drawings.
- Proficient using Adobe, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
- Proficient in using the Internet to obtain information.
- Must be able to organize, control and archive documentation.
- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Must meet physical requirements for the Engineering Intern job, including frequently sitting for extended periods of time. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
