Manufacturing Engineer
Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring a Safety & Environmental Specialist in Richmond, Virginia.
The Safety and Environmental Specialist works closely with the EHS team to implement and coordinate the safety, health, and environmental program across all of Carter Machinery’s locations and departments.
Seeking candidates with a minimum of five years of occupational safety and health experience, experience leading others in achieving environmental, health, and safety program excellence on a company level, and a bachelor’s degree in EHS or a related field (preferred).
Requirements- Intermediate to advanced skills in computer‑based technology. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, Power Point, and Outlook.
- Must be able to learn environmental, health, and safety concepts and provide expertise to branches.
- Must be able to quickly evaluate facts and maintain good judgment when making decisions.
- Must possess the ability to develop safety policies and procedures to comply with OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations.
- Must be able to assist the EHS Team in addressing specific reporting and record‑keeping of regulatory agencies.
- Must be willing to work extra hours, including days, nights, and/or weekends to meet business demands.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Must be able to work in a fast‑paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands—requires strong organizational skills.
- Must have an excellent driving record.
- Extensive travel within Carter Machinery’s geographical footprint required.

Physical requirements must be met for the Safety & Environmental Specialist role, including the ability to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
