Safety & Environmental Specialist

Overview

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring a Safety & Environmental Specialist in Richmond, Virginia. The Safety and Environmental Specialist works closely with the EHS team to implement and coordinate and further the safety, health, and environmental program of all of Carter Machinery’s locations and departments.

Seeking candidates with a minimum of five years occupation safety and health experience. Experience leading others in achieving environmental, health, and safety program excellence on a company level. Bachelor’s degree in EHS or related field preferred.

Implement and coordinate safety, health, and environmental programs across all Carter Machinery locations and departments. Lead and support the EHS team in regulatory compliance, recordkeeping, and reporting. Work with branches to develop and enforce safety policies and procedures that comply with OSHA and MSHA rules and regulations. Provide expertise and training to EHS staff and branch employees. Conduct safety audits, inspections, and investigations.

Assist in incident investigations and root cause analysis. Promote safe work practices and a positive safety culture. Travel within Carter Machinery’s geographical footprint as required.

• Intermediate to advanced computer-based technology skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Five years of occupational safety and health experience, with a record of leading others in achieving program excellence.
• Strong leadership skills and ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must possess an excellent driving record.
• Must be willing to work extra hours, including days, nights, and/or weekends to meet business demands.
• Extensive travel within Carter Machinery’s geographical footprint required.
