Locums Gastroenterology Opportunity Mechanicsville, Virginia

A hospital-based gastroenterology service in Mechanicsville, Virginia is seeking a Board Certified Gastroenterologist for multiple locum tenens coverage blocks due to a lack of coverage. This role includes hospital call coverage, outpatient GI responsibilities, and a full range of advanced endoscopic procedures.

STAT need available for select dates.

All shifts run 7:00 a.m.

- 7:00 a.m.

  • 2/23 - 2/27 (Mon-Fri) - STAT if possible

  • 4/3 - 4/6 (Fri-Mon)

  • 5/1 - 5/4 (Fri-Mon)

  • 5/4 - 5/8 (Mon-Fri)

  • 6/29 - 7/3 (Mon-Fri)

  • 7/31 - 8/3 (Fri-Mon)

  • 8/17 - 8/21 (Mon-Fri)

  • 9/7 - 9/11 (Mon-Fri)

  • 9/11 - 9/14 (Fri-Mon)

  • 10/12 - 10/16 (Mon-Fri)

  • 10/16 - 10/19 (Fri-Mon)

  • 10/19 - 10/23 (Mon-Fri)

  • 12/21 - 12/25 (Mon-Fri)

  • 12/25 - 12/28 (Fri-Mon)

  • 12/28 - 1/1 (Mon-Fri)

  • 1/1 - 1/4 (Fri-Mon)

Must be available to cover at least one open block to be considered

Assignment Overview
  • Reason for Coverage:
    Lack of coverage

  • Practice Setting:
    Hospital call

  • Clinical Areas:
    Adult Hospital Office/Clinic

Practice Environment
  • Lab and X-ray onsite

  • Outpatient Gastroenterology & Internal Medicine required

  • No trauma designation

Patient Volume
  • Average: 8 procedures per week

  • Mix includes: GSI, Hepatology, RGA, Surgery, Colon, EGD, ERCP

Required Procedures & Duties
  • Esophageal dilatation & manometry

  • Esophageal manometry interpretation

  • Small bowel biopsy

  • Lower GI endoscopy

  • Sigmoidoscopy

  • Colonoscopy

  • Liver biopsy

  • Sengstaken/Blakemore tube insertion & management

  • ERCP - Required

  • EUS - Preferred

  • Upper GI endoscopy, including:

    • Biopsy

    • Foreign body removal

    • Fulguration of bleeding (cautery or laser)

    • Injection and banding of varices

    • Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures

    • PEG placement

Technology
  • EMR:
    Epic

Requirements
  • Board Certified in Gastroenterology - Required

  • Active Virginia medical license - Required

  • ERCP - Required

  • EUS - Preferred

  • Flu shot - Required

  • COVID vaccine - Highly preferred

  • Clean malpractice history required for temporary privileges

  • Must be available for an open shift to be considered
