Responsibilities
- Communicate with supervisor regarding parts needs.
- Repairs, replaces or adjusts components. Reinstalls equipment in vehicles.
- Review work orders to determine maintenance/repair schedule.
- Repair and maintain mobile equipment.
- Obtain parts or equipment from warehouse. This is approximately five percent of day.
- Clean up shop area.
- Review manuals for instructions.
- Operate equipment to test equipment. Operate equipment while obtaining machinery and delivering back to mill area.
- Operate manlifts and cranes while testing equipment (up to 100 in height).
- Repair equipment in yard or warehouse. Ability to work in all parts of mill or yard.
- Lubricate equipment.
- Maintain written log.
- Perform related duties as directed by supervisor.

- Perform work in safe manner, observing all safety rules and regulations pertaining to the job or work area.
- Must be able to think quickly and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to obtain crane operator and manlift certifications.
- Knowledge of quality control techniques.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment failures and breakdowns.
- Ability to redesign equipment and provide creative solutions to equipment failures/repair problems.
- Ability to follow preventative maintenance schedules.
- Ability to repair equipment quickly and efficiently.
- Strong communication skills.
- No employee shall pose a direct threat to self or others.
- Sitting:
Rarely. On stool while working on machinery or parts. - Standing/Walking:
Continually. On concrete shop floor. Alternate standing with walking with standing predominating. Occasionally walk around mill yard to obtain machinery to be repaired. - Crouching (bend at knees):
Continually. While repairing, testing and installing equipment or providing maintenance. - Stooping:
Continually. While repairing, testing and installing equipment or providing maintenance. - Reaching:
Continually. Reach at waist in front of body and occasional overhead reaching while performing repairs or maintenance. - Twisting/Turning:
Continually. While repairing, testing, installing and providing maintenance on machinery. This often requires work in awkward positions. - Climbing:
Occasionally. Stairs in mill and upon equipment to access interior for repair or maintenance. Surfaces are often slippery and wet. - Crawling:
Occasionally. Under or into equipment to repair, provide maintenance and replace parts. - Kneeling:
Continually. May use kneepads while inspecting, repairing and providing maintenance on machinery. - Leg/Foot:
Occasionally. Use foot controls while operating equipment. Occasionally will use legs to brace self while using force to break down equipment with wrench. - Handling:
Continually. While using mechanics' tools, parts and handling equipment to be maintained or repaired. - Fingering/Feeling/Grasping:
Continually. While using mechanics' tools, parts and handling equipment to be maintained or repaired. - Balance:
Continually. Requires good balance while working at heights and around industrial machinery. - Vehicle Use:
Occasionally. While operating equipment to test repairs or servicing equipment. - Pushing/Pulling:
Continually. To use tools such as wrenches and handling parts. Occasionally requires use of 100 pounds of force to break down machinery. - Lifting/Carrying:
Continually. Tools, parts and equipment. Average 50 pounds, rarely 200 pounds.
