Please note that this position is 183 days with 6 paid holidays, paid sick leave and paid flexible personal leave (3 days per year). If hired after the start of the school year, days and leave are pro-rated. Job Summary

In addition to the job duties of the IA I position, this position’s primary responsibility is instruction and intervention with a specific student in a 1:1 capacity who requires special education or behavior intervention services. In addition, the staff member may be asked to carry out program activities as planned and scheduled by licensed personnel and provides instruction to individual and small groups as directed by the licensed staff.

This position monitors student safety and behavior in various settings. The existence of this student-specific position is in direct fulfillment of an identified student's needs as described in that student's Individual Education Plan (IEP). Cessation of the student’s need for a 1:1 assistant, by either reevaluation of the student's needs through the IEP process or by the student vacating the program will result in the end of the position.

Job Functions
  • Engage in behavior management activities as directed by the licensed staff member.
  • Ability to follow specific plans on protocols when working with students, including physical restraint.
  • Documents progress of students to assist the teacher in assessing progress with education plans. Maintain, or assist in maintaining student progress reports.
  • May assist students with common daily tasks such as eating, dressing, toileting, to include diapering. May provide health services and assistance to include, but not limited to, changing dressings, assisting with oxygen, assisting with insulin, assisting with nebulizers or inhalers, and assisting with walkers, wheelchairs, canes, crutches.
  • Help support assigned student in developing positive interpersonal relationships with peers and adults.
  • Promote safety of the students through the application of the district’s student management and safety guidelines.
  • Monitors individual students, classroom and/or playground activities for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Takes steps to intervene when students are not in control, not in the proper location, or may be in dangerous or unsafe situations.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or designee.
  • Responsible for being familiar with the school/district policies and procedures which govern the work.
  • Prompt and regular attendance is required.
Other Job Functions
  • Maintains classroom equipment, materials, and students’ files, records, etc. for the purpose of ensuring availability of items as may be required.
  • Performs record keeping and basic clerical functions, scheduling, copying, etc. for the purpose of supporting the teacher in maintaining student files and providing classroom materials.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Prompt and regular attendance is required.
  • Confers, under the supervision of the teacher, with teachers, parents, and/or appropriate community agency personnel for the purpose of assisting in the evaluation of students' progress and/or implementing of students' objectives. Exercises discretion and assures protection of student confidentiality consistent with the direction and guidance of staff, administrators, and school/district policies and procedures.
