Description

At Northrop Grumman, our employees have incredible opportunities to work on revolutionary systems that impact people's lives around the world today, and for generations to come. Our pioneering and inventive spirit has enabled us to be at the forefront of many technological advancements in our nation's history - from the first flight across the Atlantic Ocean, to stealth bombers, to landing on the moon.

We look for people who have bold new ideas, courage and a pioneering spirit to join forces to invent the future, and have fun along the way. Our culture thrives on intellectual curiosity, cognitive diversity and bringing your whole self to work — and we have an insatiable drive to do what others think is impossible. Our employees are not only part of history, they're making history.

Northrop Grumman is seeking an Information Governance Paralegal to join the Intellectual Property, Technology, & Information team within its Law Department, working from the company’s Northern Virginia location. The paralegal will report to the Director and Corporate Counsel for Intellectual Property and Information Governance and will work as a critical part of a team assisting with matters pertaining to information governance, data management, cybersecurity, privacy, and technology, including emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI).

We’re looking for a paralegal who can blend experience from disciplines like program management, intellectual property (IP), data management, or complementary areas (e.g., legal operations, regulatory compliance, enterprise risk management, corporate secretary support, etc.) to handle responsibilities that may include, among other things:

  • Assisting legal counsel in transactional matters related to technology and information law, including data management, cybersecurity, and privacy terms

  • Participating in information governance initiatives for records management, retention schedules, data classification, mobile devices, electronic messaging and archiving

  • Supporting corporate stakeholders with vendor agreements for information technology (IT) transactions

  • Assisting with government contract requirements for information protection and security

  • Using corporate collaboration tools to coordinate across multiple legal disciplines on publication reviews and technology initiatives

  • Coordinating incident response activities, participating in data mapping exercises, and supporting impact assessments that reflect the full life cycle of data management

  • Leveraging litigation, investigations or other experience to manage technology-related legal matters—summarizing background information, organizing and indexing documents and identifying relevant information for analysis by legal counsel

  • Participating in cross functional working groups on information governance matters, including working with Law Department and IT personnel on procedures for electronic data management and preservation

  • Assisting legal counsel with developing training materials and providing updates to on-going legal and regulatory developments in relevant areas

  • Supporting IP and technology licensing matters, including setting up matters in IP and legal management software and reporting periodic metrics for management

  • Reviewing and confirming outside counsel invoices

  • Preparing financial reports for requested business sectors

  • Collaborating with other company paralegals, U.S. and foreign legal counsel, and corporate stakeholders on operational and strategic matters

  • Performing administrative duties to facilitate department operations, including managing correspondence and calendars, scheduling arrangements, and filing expenses

To succeed in the role, a candidate must:

  • Proactively identify and solve problems independently

  • Manage competing priorities to complete work reliably in a fast-paced environment

  • Demonstrate excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

  • Work comfortably with technology

  • Consistently show strong organizational skills and attention to detail
