Credence has an upcoming need for a Software Systems Engineer to support large-scale digital modernization efforts for mission-critical Department of Defense (DoD) systems with massive national impact. This role formulates and defines specifications for complex software systems, designs cross-functional architectures, and ensures solutions meet current and future requirements while maintaining compliance with DoD standards. The engineer will lead the design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation of operating software applications, while also guiding hardware and communications integration.

The position requires expertise with systems engineering, software development, and Business Intelligence platforms (e.g., Micro Strategy), as well as experience implementing modern security solutions such as cryptography and blockchain technologies. The Software Systems Engineer Lead will also provide technical direction, mentor team members, and ensure software quality and system compatibility across environments. This position is based in Credence s corporate offices located in Tyson s Corner in McLean, VA or Dayton, OH.

This role is slated to kick off in Nov 2025.

Responsibilities
  • Formulate and define specifications for complex software applications and maintain/modify existing systems using manufacturer utilities and engineering releases
  • Design software, hardware, and communication architectures to meet enterprise and cross-functional requirements, ensuring compliance with DoD open systems standards
  • Lead efforts in program design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation for mission-critical systems
  • Provide in-depth software systems programming and analysis, including advanced file maintenance, telecommunications networks, and scientific/mathematical software packages
  • Apply expertise with Micro Strategy or other BI platforms for analytics, data modeling, and dashboard design to support mission operations
  • Implement modern security solutions such as blockchain and cryptography to harden system designs
  • Direct, mentor, and review the work of task personnel, ensuring quality assurance, adherence to standards, and project deadlines are met
  • Identify, assess, and present options for system improvements, including hardware/software upgrades and emerging technologies
  • Evaluate new and existing software products; ensure systems remain efficient, sustainable, and aligned with mission requirements
  • Work closely with project management to define project schedules and technical direction
Requirements
  • Bachelor s degree in IT or related field with 10+ years of experience in systems engineering and software development
  • Proven ability to design and sustain complex software architectures, integrating hardware, communications, and applications
  • Hands-on experience in coding, testing, debugging, and sustaining software systems in enterprise environments
  • Strong experience with Micro Strategy or other BI platforms, including analytics, data modeling, and dashboard design
  • Experience implementing modern security solutions such as blockchain or cryptographic methods
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, mentor personnel, and provide direction to ensure deliverables are met
  • Certifications (Preferred):
    Relevant certifications from a nationally recognized authority (e.g., CISSP, Security+, AWS Architect)
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities; familiarity with DoD compliance frameworks and quality assurance standards
  • Must possess an IT-II Non-Critical Sensitive clearance;
    Secret clearance is preferred
