Back Associate – Tax Controversy - 2026 - (Hybrid) – McLean, Virginia – Private Client Services – Job
The RoleTax Controversy Associates provide advice, guidance, and representation with respect to practice and procedure matters, as well as audits and appeals, with the IRS and other domestic tax authorities for a variety of clients, ranging from Fortune 500 companies to venture backed startups, pass through entities and high net worth individuals.
- Represent clients through all stages of audits and appeals with the IRS and other domestic tax authorities;
- Assist clients in resolving all practice and procedure matters with the IRS and other domestic tax authorities;
- Conduct research and analysis on federal, state, and international tax issues, and draft legal memoranda, protest letters, and other deliverables;
- Advise internal tax compliance professionals at all levels on risk mitigation strategies and methods to avoid tax controversies in connection with tax planning and consulting engagements;
- Analyze technical IRS account transcripts to identify issues and exposure and advise internal tax compliance teams and clients through unique IRS account monitoring software;
- Coordinate communication, timelines, and deliverables for complex federal tax issues among internal tax compliance teams, tax authority representatives, and clients;
- Execute administrative appeals, internal escalations, and referrals to the Taxpayer Advocate Service to bring resolution to complex federal tax matters with the IRS; and
- Communicate directly with tax authority agents and officers through examination, appeals, collections, and accounts management functions to resolve outstanding issues.
- Juris Doctor degree;
- A minimum GPA of 3.0;
- Strong leadership, multitasking and organizational skills;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and an atural facilitator;
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills; and
- Familiarity with MS excel
