  • Technician I (#9949, W1): $42,431.01 – $61,526.40 annually ($20.39 – $29.58 hourly)
  • Technician II (#9950, W2): $44,977.43 – $65,218.80 annually ($21.62 – $31.35 hourly)
  • Technician III (#9951, W3): $47,676.50 – $69,132.54 annually ($22.92 – $33.23 hourly)
  • Technician IV (#9952, W4): $50,537.36 – $73,280.88 annually ($24.29 – $35.23 hourly)

Summary of Position

Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems, including the repair of water leaks, installation of sewer and water mains, and operation of moderate to complex equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Conduct basic water inspection, installation, and repair of water mains, services, meters, hydrants, and valves.
  • Prepare work areas and secure job sites with cones, barricades, and traffic control devices.
  • Set up tools, materials, and equipment for assignments.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and tools.
  • Flush hydrants and track water loss.
  • Identify basic water parts and operate valve turners.
  • Carry out safety inspections and complete check‑off sheets.
  • Serve on call‑out crews as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED plus experience suitable for water construction, maintenance, and repair.
  • Valid Class A commercial driver’s license or ability to obtain within 12 months of employment.
Conditions of Employment
  • Pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Hold a Class C Texas driver’s license.
  • Obtain NIMS certificates IS‑100 and IS‑700 within 6 months.
  • Work 12‑hour shifts during storms or natural disasters, and may be called in while on vacation.
Physical Demands / Supplemental

Tasks require heavy physical effort, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting 20–50 pounds (occasionally up to 150 pounds). Visual and olfactory discrimination may be required.

Work Environment

Limited exposure to environmental conditions; tasks may involve strong odors, smoke, traffic hazards, extreme heat/cold, or other weather conditions.
