Overview

Texas Oncology, a part of the US Oncology Network, is seeking a Patient Benefits Representative to support our Oncology Department at 4510 Medical Center Drive, Suite 215 in McKinney, Texas. This full‑time position operates Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role will be a level 1 or senior level depending on candidate experience. Texas Oncology is the largest community oncology provider in the country, treating half of all Texans diagnosed with cancer annually.

The US Oncology Network is one of the nation’s largest networks of community‑based oncology physicians dedicated to advancing cancer care in America.

Patient Benefits Representative Responsibilities
  • Obtain insurance coverage information and educate patients on coverage, benefits, co‑pays, deductibles, and out‑of‑pocket expenses prior to treatment.
  • Assess patients’ ability to meet expenses, discuss payment arrangements, and provide assistance with financial programs and forms.
  • Complete Patient Cost Estimate forms and the appropriate reimbursement and liability forms for patient review and signature.
  • Obtain insurance pre‑authorization or referral approval codes prior to each treatment from the Clinical Reviewer.
  • Review patient account balances and notify front desk of patients needing to meet with.
  • Ensure patient co‑pay amounts are correctly entered into the system to allow front desk collection.
  • Verify and update demographics and insurance coverage in the computer system at each patient visit according to SOPs.
  • Stay current on available financial aids, develop professional relationships with financial aid providers, and network to obtain leads to other aid programs.
  • Adhere to confidentiality, state, federal, and HIPAA laws and guidelines regarding patient records.
  • Maintain updated manuals, logs, forms, and documentation; perform additional duties as requested.
Qualifications

Level 1

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum three (3) years patient pre‑services coordinator or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency with computer systems and Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of CPT coding and HCPS coding application.
  • Verbal communication clarity and correct terminology required.
  • Complete required e‑learning courses within 90 days of position occupancy.

Level Sr (in addition to Level 1 requirements)

  • Associate’s degree in Finance, Business, or four years revenue cycle experience preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years pre‑services coordinator experience and two (2) years of patient benefits experience required.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and appropriate application of insurance coverage benefits and terminology.

Physical Demands

The role requires presence during regularly scheduled business hours, frequent sitting or standing, handling and lifting patients, moderate lifting (up to 40 lbs.), and regular walking. Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities.

Work Environment

The environment may include exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, and medical preparations common to an oncology clinic. Working involves in‑person interaction with co‑workers and may require minimal automobile travel to office sites.
