Overview

Under the general guidance of the Medical Director and in collaboration with the Executive Team and Behavioral Health Directors, the Director of Nursing (DON) provides leadership, oversight, and strategic direction for all medical operations across Life Path Systems. The DON is responsible for the administration and management of clinical, contractual, and financial aspects of medical services. This role ensures that all medical services are delivered in a person-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally and linguistically appropriate manner, aligned with Life Path Systems’ mission, values, and strategic goals.

The DON is a seasoned leader and team builder who promotes collaboration across clinical, medical, and administrative functions to achieve measurable outcomes in quality, access, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, and financial sustainability. The primary responsibility is to optimize the medical service delivery system by ensuring efficient, comprehensive, and cost-effective care while advancing organizational objectives. Performs other duties as assigned to promote service enhancement and continuous quality improvement of perspective clinics for ease of access.

This position actively engages with community stakeholders and partners including local hospitals, emergency departments, law enforcement, jails, and other community providers, to ensure coordination of care and access to services throughout Collin County.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for all medical and nursing services across outpatient clinics, crisis services, and other medical programs
  • Ensure safe, effective, evidence-based medical practices across all service settings
  • Promote collaboration between nursing, prescribers, behavioral health, and administrative teams
  • Ensure continuity of care and appropriate medical coverage across clinics and crisis centers
  • Monitor, analyze, and improve performance, efficiency, and effectiveness across all medical programs
  • Use data and outcomes to inform strategic planning, program adjustments, and growth
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and standards, including licensing requirements, billing standards, contract requirements, TAC, UM guidelines, and other governing bodies
  • Review, develop, and revise medical policies and procedures as needed
  • Investigate assigned complaints, incidents, and adverse events; implement timely corrective actions
  • Support, develop, and retain a high-performing medical and nursing workforce through training, coaching, and oversight
  • Monitor and adjust prescriber and nursing caseloads and schedules to ensure access and quality
  • Approve time sheets, paid time off, and staffing plans
  • Ensure appropriate staffing coverage to avoid service disruptions
  • Monitor medical program budgets and expenditures
  • Foster strong internal collaboration across programs
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community stakeholders to support coordinated care and system integration
  • Represent Life Path Systems in relevant community and interagency initiatives

Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience (including licensure and certification)

  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the Texas Board of Nursing and accredited by ACEN or CCNE;
    Bachelor of Science in Nursing is highly preferred.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted Texas License as a Registered Nurse.
  • Exposure to community or federally funded mental health facilities and programs highly preferred.
  • Experience with accreditation processes strongly preferred.
  • 7 years professional nursing experience required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in nursing supervisory role required.
  • Minimum 3 years working with individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorders required.
  • Experience in both psychiatric inpatient and outpatient settings highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Possess in-depth knowledge and understanding of the psychopathology and psychotropic medications.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform crisis intervention and triage.
