Job Description
Collin County is seeking candidates for the position of Juvenile Probation Officer. A Juvenile Probation Officer is responsible for, but not limited to, performing professional correction work through supervising juveniles that are placed on probation or in detention.
Minimum Qualifications- Must possess the knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.
- Must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in criminal justice, counseling, law, social work, psychology, sociology, or other field of instruction approved by the commission.
- Must also possess one year of experience in a related area or one year of graduate school.
- Must secure and maintain certification as a Juvenile Probation Officer by the Texas Juvenile Justice Department within one year of employment.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Operator’s Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Reviews referral documents including police reports, court transcriptions, and criminal records to assist with formulating a treatment plan.
- Conducts interviews and confreres with juveniles, parents, schools and other agencies to identify the needs of the juvenile including out-of-home placements.
- Assists juvenile and parents with collecting and completing required paperwork for placement.
- Investigates, Enforces, monitors, and reports on cases involving juveniles who have violated the law or their probation or court supervision.
- Documents all contacts with juveniles and others involved in their case.
- Prepares and distributes court-related documents for pre-trial hearings, adjudication hearings, and detention hearings; makes necessary recommendations to court.
- Attends court hearings and furnish testimony, if necessary.
- Conducts office visits and field visits with juveniles and their families at their home, school, detention center, or elsewhere.
- Answers phone calls, conducts phone check-ins, emails; and prepares correspondence as necessary. Collects moneys involving restitution, attorney’s fees, probation fees and court costs.
- Transports juveniles to/from detention centers, jails, medical or mental health facilities, schools, and residential placements as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Completes intake interviews with juveniles and parents to complete required assessments for initial disposition of the juvenile’s case and initial Preliminary investigations.
- Conducts screenings, including risk and needs assessments (MAYSI).
- Prepares Pre-Disposition Reports.
- Submits referrals to specialty courts, when necessary.
- Completes Common Applications when required for placement consideration.
- Skills in conflict resolution.
