Summary Of PositionUnder general supervision by the Chief Building Inspectors, the purpose of the position is to ensure compliance with the ICC Building Codes and City Ordinances. Employees in this classification perform skilled level work. The position is responsible for inspecting and certifying new, existing, and altered buildings and structures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of the Chief Building Inspectors, inspect new and existing residential, commercial, multi‑family, and other buildings for critical life safety standards.
- Verify conformance with adopted International Codes, construction documents, and the City's Code of Ordinances.
- Safely drive a City vehicle to inspection sites as assigned.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, homeowners, developers, designers, and the public regarding inspection requirements.
- Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing codes.
- Work independently to manage time, plan routes, and execute inspections.
- Document inspection results clearly and accurately in the computer database.
- Demonstrate knowledge of standard software and inspection databases on tablets and laptops.
- Respond to inquiries from citizens and professionals regarding inspections.
- Investigate and respond to construction complaints from the public.
- Comply with City and department policies and safety standards.
- Adhere to the assigned work schedule and attendance policies.
- Participate in special team projects.
- Achieve ICC certification in either residential or commercial building within 6 months of employment.
- Periodically lead department training.
- Work outdoors in inclement weather, including extreme heat and cold.
- Manage a variable workload to complete 100% of inspections each day.
- Determine if construction work may proceed and if permits are required.
- Perform related work as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed.
