Overview
UPMC is hiring a full-time Mental Health Counselor II to support Western Behavioral Health at Mon Yough in McKeesport, PA. The shift for this role is overnight, from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM. The incumbent will be supporting the Fifth Ave Residential Home. This position is eligible for a sign-on bonus up to $3,500. The role is ideal for a candidate with a bachelor’s degree who is interested in working with individuals with chronic mental illness and has little or no experience in the behavioral health field.
The hire will have the opportunity to learn about medications and treatment modalities that contribute to recovery and quality of life, and will be exposed to medical and psychiatric issues related to long-term psychotropic medication and aging processes.
- Casework
Activities:
Assist residents with medical appointments, emergency care, financial assistance, budgeting, and daily living skills. Provide hands-on help and public transportation education. - Documentation
Activities:
Write detailed shift notes, give verbal reports, complete medication documentation, and report issues. Conduct and document resident health measurements. - Counseling
Activities:
Build effective relationships, meet weekly with consumers to discuss progress, help set and achieve goals, provide life guidance, use crisis intervention techniques, and lead social/educational groups. - ADL
Activities:
Orient residents to the community, educate on emergency procedures, teach social skills, communicate with the treatment team, attend meetings, liaise with service providers, and perform safety checks. - Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience in the career counseling of clients with alcohol/substance abuse problems and/or clients from other disadvantaged populations preferred.
- Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) certification preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC)
