Northwestern Medicine has an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to work in our Electrophysiology (EP) department. The role involves a mix of inpatient and outpatient patient care.
ScheduleMonday – Friday
LocationsMcHenry Hospital (primary) & Huntley Hospital
Essential Functions- Demonstrates clinical expertise and expanded knowledge through patient care activities which may include diagnosis and management of a wide range of health problems.
- Responsible for health outcome of an assigned patient population.
- Collaborates with physicians and other health professionals in the area of clinical expertise.
- Develops appropriate educational systems for patients, families and staff in areas of expertise.
- Mentors graduate students in aspects of advanced practice and patient care.
- Actively participates in quality improvement and/or research pertinent to area of expertise.
- Conduct comprehensive appraisal of patients' health status by taking histories and performing physical examinations.
- Provide direct clinical care to patients.
- Prescribe and order medications, therapies; order/interprets laboratory tests, x‑rays and procedures according to clinical privileges.
- Evaluate patients to determine need for further health care.
- Provide comprehensive teaching to patients and families.
- Document all care and education provided and/or procedures performed in the medical record.
- Refer to other disciplines as appropriate.
- Act as consultant to other disciplines in areas of expertise.
- Integrate research‑based knowledge and clinical expertise in decision making.
- Exemplify a professional image in appearance, manner and presentation.
- Advocate for patients, families, coworkers, and the community.
- Maintain certifications and continuing education as required for licensure and privileging.
- Serve as a patient advocate and role model for the “Patients First” philosophy.
- Participate in unit/departmental/divisional or hospital committees/task forces as appropriate.
- Develop and participate in programs to meet continuing education needs of staff.
- Provide formal education to internal and external groups pertinent to specialty area.
- Participate in quality improvement and/or research initiatives for specific patient populations.
- Master’s degree from an accredited nursing program or an accredited Physician Assistant program.
- Acute‑care certification required for APRNs (inpatient experience as an NP will be considered in lieu of acute‑care certification).
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in Illinois; for APRN – current license in Illinois as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse; for PA – current license in Illinois as a Physician Assistant.
- Credentialed through Northwestern Medicine Medical Staff Office (MSO).
- Cardio‑pulmonary resuscitation – BLS, issued by the American Heart Association.
- 3+ years of cardiology or EP experience.
