The City of McHenry is pleased to announce the recruitment and selection process for the position of Communications Manager. As a community in the midst of dynamic growth, we are looking for a skilled professional communicator with vision who is ready to put their stamp on this newly created position.

The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing a City-wide communications strategy, policies, and conforming brand standards. Under the general supervision of the City Administrator, this full-time, exempt position will manage the City’s digital and print communications from concept to distribution. The Communications Manager will work with all departments to achieve brand consistency and content coordination that will promote a positive public image of McHenry to residents, businesses and community partners.

The ideal candidate will be able to provide high-level strategy while also being able to execute a project from concept to completion.

Anticipated Hiring Range:

$88,000 – $100,000 DOQ

Full position range: $82,409 – $113,312

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business or similar. Master’s Degree desired.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in communications or similar field, preferably in a municipal setting.
  • Proven experience creating a formal communications strategy involving multiple departments and disciplines.
  • Experience creating written and digital content that informs the audience and promotes the established communication strategy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidence in preparing and facilitating presentations.
  • Above average experience using Microsoft Office products, Adobe Creative, and other graphic and publishing software.
  • Ability to be confidential and discern topics for internal and external use.
  • Valid Illinois driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Requires occasional work outside of normal business hours.
