Deputy Chief of Operations

The McHenry Township Fire Protection District (MTFPD) is a 24 hours a day, 7 days a week operation responding out of 5 stations. Each Station is staffed by a combination of Paid on Premise and Full-time personnel. Each station has various numbers of personnel, ambulances and fire equipment based on call volume and need.

MTFPD is located approximately 60 miles Northwest of Chicago in the Northeastern portion of McHenry County. MTFPD is comprised of 8 different villages and cities and protects 56 square miles and approximately 55,000 year‑around residents.

This ex empt mana g ement position works a stand ard 40 hour administrative work week and reports directly to the Fire Chief. Persons assi g n ed to this position have considerable latitude for de cision making and ind ependent action for plannin g, int e rvention strate gies and a c tion pl ans for programs within assi g n ed are as.

This position is distinguished from the Batt alion Chiefrank by the considerably g r eater scope of managerial and administrative duti es perfor m ed. Work in this position requires mana g erial knowled g e, eff e ctive teamwork, and indep end ent decision making. In the absen ce of the Fire Chief, an empl o yee in t his position may tempor a rily assume full responsibility for duti es of the Fire Chief position.

Applicants must pass an extensive background check and medical exam including drug testing. Residency within the McHenry Township Fire Protection District is required within six (6) months from the date of hire. The current salary range for this position is $155,384 to $174,030 plus benefit package. This position is appoint ed by the Board of T rustees and is a non-commissioned rank.

The anticipated hiring date for the Deputy Chief of Operations is late May/Early June 2026
