Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Conservation Education Representative located at Moraine Hills State Park. Under general supervision of site staff, the Conservation Education Representative will possess and handle live fish and bait in an interactive fishing clinic designed to instill an appreciation and understanding of conservation ethics, sport fishing techniques and tackle, fish ecology and identification;
gather data and assemble information; compose newspaper and magazine releases interpreting the Urban Fishing Program activities. We welcome qualified applicants who would like to be part of this team to apply today.
NOTE: THIS POSITION IS A TEMPORARY SEASONAL POSITION THAT WILL NOT EXCEED SIX MONTHS.
This position is a union position; therefore, provisions of the relevant collective bargaining agreement/labor contract apply to the filling of this position.
Essential Functions- Under general direction of the Northeastern Illinois Urban Fishing Program Manager, develops and executes the Conservation Education Program for the Urban Fishing Program in the assigned area.
- Serves as program liaison with media outlets.
- Participates in staff meetings relating to the development and presentation of education and information material.
- Interprets and promotes the Urban Fishing Program's services and activities.
- Develops and establishes new and more effective methods of clinic instructions.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, with courses in journalism, English, or public speaking.
- Elementary knowledge of the principles of conservation education.
- Two (2) years of professional experience in a public education and information program in a public or private agency.
- One (1) year of experience in public speaking.
- One (1) year of experience using cameras, projectors, recorders, and outdoor equipment.
- One (1) year of experience presenting ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
- One (1) year of experience preparing reports and keeping records on conservation education activities.
- One (1) year of fishing experience.

Charged with preserving, protecting and promoting Illinois’ natural and cultural resources, Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) employees oversee water, wildlife, wetlands and oil wells, parks, historic sites – and everything in between. Work HoursMonday – Saturday, up to 37.5 hours per week. Hours may vary due to inclement weather and clinic schedules.
