Minimum Qualifications / Required Skills
  • Current and valid Illinois Elementary Education Endorsement.
  • Experience in providing curriculum leadership and innovative best practices.
  • Experience in leading professional development opportunities preferred.
  • Ability to actively listen and utilize effective questioning techniques.
  • Ability to communicate and present to various audiences concisely and through multiple methods.
  • Is a team player, leader, organized, and confidential.
  • Promotes district staff and can facilitate adult and children learners.
  • Ability to utilize technology in coaching and teaching and has knowledge of available District resources.
  • Able to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Responsibilities / Duties
  • The desired outcomes of instructional coaches are to improve student success and extend staff instructional expertise through advancing collective responsibility, strengthening collaborative relationships, enhancing curriculum implementation, and maximizing use of resources.
  • Plans and implements instructional programs in accordance with the District’s philosophy and curricular objectives.
  • Ensure that teachers implement effective, research-based instructional strategies based on methodologies and best practices that can be used to deliver content.
  • To ensure the implementation of the adopted curriculum.
  • To increase the quality and effectiveness of classroom instruction through visiting teacher’s classrooms to model, co-teacher, or observe and conduct pre and post visit conferences with teacher to facilitate reflection.
  • To design collaborative, job embedded, standards-based professional learning.
  • Assists team of teachers and/or individual teacher to ensure that student achievement data is used to drive decision at the classroom and school level.
  • Work collaboratively will all stakeholders to plan, implement, assess school change initiatives to ensure alignment and focus of intended results.
  • To increase instructional skills of teachers and support school wide activities.
  • Introduce new ideas, make observations, and question current practice to move beyond the status quo, and to challenge mental models.
  • To expand teachers’ use of a variety of resources to improve instruction and to model continuous learning.
  • Develop and facilitate high quality, job embedded professional development that supports the instructional framework, applicable curriculum, and formative assessments. May include providing support for peer observations and learning between classrooms/sites.
  • Build and maintain confidential relationship with teachers and teams. The conversations and interactions that the coach has with teachers must always remain confidential to maintain an high level of trust is maintained.
  • Uses technology to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration while establishing clear objectives for all lessons, curricular units, and projects. Collaborates and facilitates ongoing staff development.
  • Communicates and collaborates with instructional staff for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes and extending staff instructional expertise.
  • Understanding of various formal and informal assessment strategies and uses them to support the continuous development of staff and students.
  • Demonstrates exemplary classroom practice and possesses a deep understanding of technology integration and quality learning principles.
  • Perform such other appropriate duties as may be assigned by Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services or Designee.
