Engages in water line repair and installation initiatives, seamlessly transitioning between tasks to meet diverse demands, showcasing versatile skills and the ability to work independently. Executes the assembly, installation, and repair of pipes, fittings, and fixtures within the water distribution system.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Responds promptly to emergency situations, implementing effective solutions to address water system issues and minimize disruptions.
  • Locates valves strategically to cut off water flow, facilitating safe and effective repairs.
  • Cuts the necessary pipe sections skillfully to enable seamless repairs and replacements.
  • Assembles and installs a variety of valves, pipe fittings, and pipes, utilizing materials such as iron, steel, brass, and nonmetals like plastic to optimize the water distribution network.
  • Joins pipes using various methods, including bolts, fittings, and plastic solvent, ensuring secure and durable connections.
  • Fills the pipe system with water and meticulously reads pressure gauges to assess and rectify any potential leaks, maintaining the system's efficiency.
  • Effectively signals operators, ensuring precise alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to meet specifications during projects.
  • Conducts systematic flushing of fire hydrants to eliminate dirt and debris that may have entered the system during repairs, preserving water quality and system functionality.
  • Collaborates with other departments on special projects to enhance the overall water distribution infrastructure.
  • Operates specialized tools and equipment required for water utility projects, maintaining a commitment to safety and quality.
  • Participates in training programs to stay updated on industry best practices and advancements in water utility technologies.
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Valid Georgia Driver's License. Flagging Certification, Competent Person Certification, and Confined Space Certification or the ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of hire.

The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
