Overview
The CNA/Direct Care Giver provides quality care and assistance with activities of daily living to residents of the community. The CNA encourages residents to function at their highest level of independence and to participate in community activities. Conducts activities and provides for a meaningful experience for all residents.
Responsibilities- Maintain a working knowledge of all policies and procedures pertaining to the position
- Assist residents with activities of daily living
- Report incidents involving residents, including care concerns or issues, to appropriate individuals (e.g., HCC, RN/LPN, or ED) and complete appropriate documentation
- Perform housekeeping duties as directed by supervisor (e.g., making resident beds, cleaning resident apartments, common areas, dining room)
- Respond promptly to all resident calls for assistance or emergency alerts
- Remain calm and competent during emergencies
- Assist in planning and conducting activity programs for residents
- Follow confidentiality policies regarding the release of resident information
- Assist residents to and from the dining room and from activities
- Check on residents, ensure attendance at meals and activities
- Check on residents who are ill and report status or concerns to appropriate individuals and document as necessary
- Communicate verbally and in writing to report resident status, upcoming community information, resident appointments, admissions, and transfers
- Assist new residents with move-in transition and provide emotional support
- Report all resident changes and interventions in the Daily Log and clinical record; notify family as directed
- Must possess a current CNA license from the state in which the community is located and in good standing with the Board of Nursing
- Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing
- Must be organized and able to work well with all levels of personnel
- Must be a contributing member of the nursing team and follow the instruction of the supervisor
- Must be polite and considerate of residents, visitors, and co-workers at all times
- Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs, and push or carry 25 lbs; must be able to safely lift and transfer residents while maintaining proper body mechanics
- Must be in designated uniform during working hours, including name badge and a smile
- Must be CPR/First Aid certified, or willing to become certified within 60 days of hire
- Must be able to represent the community in a positive and professional manner
- Must attend and complete all required in-services and staff meetings
- Must be willing to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends and holidays
