Position: CNA Med/Card 1/7/26

Overview

Under general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, Associate Chief Nursing Officer, Nurse Manager, and direct supervision of RN 1, charge nurse, RN or LPN, the certified nurse technician or nurse technician performs direct patient care for an assigned number of patients. At all times, patient assignments will be determined by each department's patient census and current staffing levels required for overall patient care which are reviewed shift-to-shift.

The CNA/Tech will be assigned up to 40 hours per week, 12-hour shifts, and may rotate between day and night shift according to the needs of the unit and staff and flexed according to census unit volume. The CNA/Tech is expected to function within the scope of practice and approved policies, procedures, and regulations for the department and organization.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Charge nurse, RN or LPN with orientation and preceptorship for Nurse Techs or certified nurse assistants, students, or unit secretaries assigned to the unit.
  • Maintain professional, non-defensive relations with peers, physicians, mid-level providers, administration, patients, and visitors.
  • Collect selected patient information and perform patient care as directed by the RN/LPN; document care given and assist with review and maintenance of the patient chart per policy.
  • Assist with accurate and timely entry of patient data, patient orders, or charges into the computer system.
  • Monitor and reassess patients’ vital signs and Accu-checks as directed by the RN/LPN.
  • Identify patients’ needs/concerns to the RN/LPN or provider for patient safety and patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain clinical competence to perform any job duty within the CNA/Tech scope by providing care for patients during procedures.
  • Promote unit and organizational philosophy and goals; participate in the development of unit goals.
  • Support and assist with staffing/scheduling policies to meet unit needs and assist with establishment of departmental policies and procedures reflecting services provided by the telemetry department.
  • Participate in organizational committees as assigned; provide information on trends related to patient outcomes to the Nurse Manager, charge nurse or RN/LPN.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements: EMTALA, DNV, and CMS; demonstrate professionalism and professional behavior of staff members.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill related to patient throughput and customer service/satisfaction; pay close attention to census with emphasis on patient throughput; address patient concerns.
  • Complete the yearly mandatory in-service (YMI) requirement; arrange, attend sessions, and remain current on Health Stream assignments.
  • Must float to designated areas as assigned per RN 1, Manager, or Charge RN; may be placed on call depending on census and unit needs; on-call rate of pay applies and employee must be able to report to work when needed.
