RN Surgical Service ASC

Position

Charge Nurse RN – Surgical Service ASC 10/24/25 at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center.

Under general supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer, Associate Chief Nursing Officer, Nurse Manager and direct supervision RN-1, this role safely supervises shift‑to‑shift performance of patient care, education, data entry, accurate completion of physician orders and customer complaint follow‑up.

• Coordinate total patient care and education for assigned patients.
• Administer medications, monitor patients, operate essential equipment.
• Document patient care in the medical record per policy.
• Manage shift assignments per department census and staffing.
• Provide orientation, preceptorship, and aid in management of assigned personnel.
• Assist with policy development and committee participation.
• Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements (CDC, DNV, MSDH, etc.).
• Float between departments as needed.
• Pass pharmacology test and complete yearly mandatory in‑service requirements.
• Adhere to medication safety (6 rights) and communicate adverse events.

• Registered Nurse license.
• Experience in surgical or acute care setting.
• Proficiency with IV therapy and high‑risk medication administration.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to operate surgical unit equipment and assist in procedures.
