* * General Statement of Job
** The Floor Technician performs various floor maintenance functions in accordance with department standard techniques and procedures throughout the college district.
** Specific Duties and Responsibilities
***
* Essential Functions:

*** Performs routine and comprehensive floor maintenance of assigned facilities.
* Secures and unlocks facilities.
* Operates various types of equipment used for floor care maintenance including automatic scrubbers, floor machines, wet/dry vacuums, vacuums, sweepers, pressure wash equipment and carpet extractors.
* Provides daily preventive equipment maintenance on all equipment used.
* Dust mops, cleans floors; strips, refinishes, scrubs and/or recoats floors; machine scrubs floors according to floor maintenance schedules.
* Ensures the quality and completion of floor work.
* Provides input regarding chemicals, supplies, cleaning tools and equipment condition.
* May be required to adjust alignment of squeeze blade, replacement of squeeze blade, hose replacement, and clearing of clogged hoses.
* Tags equipment for major repairs, and advises supervisor.
* Maintains inventory and submits written requests for supplies; tests and evaluates new supplies and equipment.
* Adheres to safety and health regulations.
* Assists with custodial duties, as needed.
* Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
*** High School Diploma or GED required.
* At least one (1) year of experience in floor cleaning operations, preferred.
** Required Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

*** Must meet established cleaning standards.
* Thorough knowledge of custodial service-tools, basic maintenance, cleaning agents, custodial equipment, cleaning techniques and performance standards.
* Knowledge of proper use of a wide range of chemicals according to state and federal regulations.
* Ability to safely dispose of hazardous materials; identify stains and use proper chemicals for their removal.
* Must be willing and able to work various hours, various locations, and rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, College closures, and holidays, as needed.
* Ability to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.
* Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
* Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
* Ability to apply practical understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
* Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

* Must have a valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance.
** Physical Requirements
*** Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
* Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.
* Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized.
* Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet.
