HIM/Medical Records Specialist performs various technical Performance Improvement Department functions including prepping and scanning records, submitting, and following up with medical records requests and pulling and filling charts for abstraction. The Specialist is responsible for maintaining the efficient daily workflow of obtaining the patients’ health charts. This individual will perform all duties related to chart retrieval including obtaining medical records from various Electronic Health Records Systems.
This position requires great accuracy with repetitive tasks, good organizational skills, professionalism on the phone and in-person, and the ability to multitask with changing priorities. Experience with Health Information Management (HIM) and exposure to Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is required.
- High School diploma.
- 1-2 years’ experience with Health Information Management (HIM) and exposure to Electronic Medical Records (EMR) preferred.
- Medical Assistant (MA) certification preferred.
- Experience in a medical insurance office preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Proficient computer skills and ability to learn various software systems.
- Able to download, sort, rename and file documents electronically.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word and Excel.
- Customer service experience both direct and on the phone.
- Ability to be innovative and take initiative.
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail to maintain medical records according to standards.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
