Practice Overview

Thurmond Eye Associates, a trusted provider of high-quality ophthalmic care for over 60 years, is seeking a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist with strong interest and experience in cataract and glaucoma management and surgery.

With seven clinical locations across the Rio Grande Valley and a dedicated outpatient surgery center (Raider Surgical Center), we serve a diverse and growing patient population that requires comprehensive medical and surgical eye care. This is a high-volume practice supported by well-trained staff and administrative infrastructure through Ascend Vision Partners, allowing physicians to focus on clinical excellence.

Position Highlights
  • Perform advanced cataract surgery, including phacoemulsification and premium IOLs

  • Diagnose and manage glaucoma, with access to MIGS and laser procedures

  • High surgical volume from day one, with a built-in referral network

  • Dedicated block time in ASC with state-of-the-art equipment

  • Strong OD-MD co-management model in place

  • Collaborative team of ophthalmologists and optometrists

  • Efficient clinical flow supported by 2 scribes and 3 technicians per provider

Ideal Candidate
  • MD or DO with board certification/eligibility in Ophthalmology

  • Fellowship training in glaucoma is welcome but not required

  • Strong interest in cataract surgery and managing glaucoma

  • Comfortable practicing in a high-volume, fast-paced clinical setting

  • Spanish-speaking ability is a plus but not required

  • Enthusiastic about community-based, team-oriented care
