Duties
Help
- Serve as a working leader providing work instructions to employees for daily carpentry tasks.
- Checks work in progress and upon completion for compliance with established instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
- Advise workers on proper procedures and techniques to be used based on the nature of assignment.
- Participate in general repair, alteration, and maintenance of structures and buildings.
- Fabricate walls, floors, and ceilings of buildings and rooms of wood, metal, and sheetrock.

- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Performs duties which involve surveillance and/or handling of hazardous waste. Must complete the introductory course in hazardous waste management within six months of being assigned to this position and attend annual refresher course.
- This position requires a valid, State-issued motor vehicle driver's license.
- This position requires successful completion of pre-placement and annual medical examinations.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element):
Ability to do the work of an Carpenter Leader without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common duties which include giving directions to a number of employees in accomplishing trade and labor work associated with the Carpentry duties. I can plan, lay out, and finish carpentry work from layout to final assembly and pass on instructions received from supervisor to ensure needed plans, materials, tools, and equipment are available.
I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed.

Incumbent works at benches or while material is on supports which requires considerable standing, stooping, and bending; alsoworks on ladders and scaffolds or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Arm movement is considerable when nailing andusing such tools as handsaws, planers, and may lift and carry items that weigh about 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed both inside and outside. Outside exposure to heat and cold can be protected against by proper clothing. Insidework is usually in buildings, adequately heated, lighted and ventilated. Noise from hammers, saws and other power shop tools isfrequent. There is dust, and sometimes dirt, when repairing structures and operating power saws. Injuries may occur…
