- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with School Social Worker Endorsement.
- Must have been awarded from an accredited college or university a Bachelor's or Master's degree in social work.
Under the direction of the Office of Specialized Services, the school social worker enables students to achieve their fullest potential academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally by assisting students to develop coping skills, increase self-esteem, improve interactive skills, and facilitate environmental changes that will enable successful functioning within the learning setting. School social workers also provide crisis intervention as well as individual and group intervention services supporting mental health issues for students, school personnel and community/family.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide evidence-based, crisis, individual and group interventions to students in need.
- Consultation services to faculty, co‑team members, parents and other appropriate parties regarding the socio‑cultural and emotional factors impacting on the student’s learning experiences.
- Complete diagnostic assessment for students needing initial evaluation or reevaluation.
- Individual Education Conferences to help determine eligibility for special education programs and counseling services on all cases where social work services are recommended.
- Conduct professional development/training and workshops for teachers, administrators, and other school personnel.
- Provide leadership in developing and coordinating school‑community partnerships that includes school‑based and school‑linked services.
- Develop and implement intervention and prevention programs that will assist in the reduction of at‑risk students.
- Participate in MTSS initiatives in the school environment to support student success.
- Refer to, and consult with, appropriate community agencies; develop and coordinate relevant community resources to address specific needs of the students and families.
- Link services and intervention strategies to the classroom to enhance the child’s overall educational development.
- Maintain valid and reliable records of all interactions with students.

Selection ProcessAll applicants must complete a District application to be considered for employment. Applications will be reviewed. Interviews of selected qualified applicants will be conducted, and a qualified candidate will be recommended by the hiring supervisor to the Office of Human Resources. District 209 ensures equal employment opportunity, as outlined in Board Policy 5:10. The Superintendent is responsible for making final hiring recommendations to the Proviso Township High Schools Board of Education.
Employment is subject to the recommendation of the Superintendent, the approval of the Board of Education and the results of required processes outlined in Board Policy 5:30.
